Megan's 3rd birthday

Mobile livejournal has a character input limit, so i'll be brief. I've just spent a lovely weekend in manchester with the maggs family to celebrate megan's 3rd birthday. I've been busy with 3rd year of uni in bristol recently, so it's been lovely to visit what feels like extended family for a few days. I'm sad to be travelling back now, but i'm really looking forward to being with becky again :)

New Flat

I forgot you could post to livejournal via frank (the lj bot on livejournal jabber chat). So, I've moved flat to the Clifton Village area of Bristol, and all is well. 4 new housemates, and my final year of photography ahead of me. Now, all I've got to do is come up with form of income to make up for living in one of the most expensive areas in Bristol!

long overdue update

  • 6th Jun, 2008 at 12:55 AM
pingu
it's been so long since i update my livejournal all the menus and stuff has moved around
even the post an entry page has got all rich text and fancy

i guess i've just been using my facebook status to loosely let people know i'm still alive and what i'm doing, but facebook swallows that info up after a few weeks and there is no news feed archive

anyways, things have been going good for me recently. so much so that i've not had a reason to moan at my journal or write about things happening, so a lot has happened that i have no real record about except for my memories and some photos (i'm taking less of them the further i get through my university photography course, but i have recently photographed david and gina's wedding last friday on 30th may).

short summary:
  • i've just finished my 2nd year of photography at UWE in Bristol.
  • I've got a trip to amsterdam with my mashed clanmates at the end of june
  • i move to a new flat in clifton in july, sharing with 4 coursemates from UWE
  • i'm then going to the big chill festival at the beginning of august
  • and then my brother is coming down to visit me for a week, before he end up moving to st andrews in september to start his university degree
i should write more really, about what i'm thinking and feeling
and how i've let my livejournal and deviant art subscriptions lapse and i've not updated them

but i've been busy living my life, and it's in no way boring. i've always maintained that i'd rather be too busy than too bored :) and these are my years of being a student and enjoying student type stuff

then i can settle down (preferably in bristol, as i can't think of anywhere better at the moment) and get a job and worry about ambitions, bills, and adult stuff like that :D

mind blurt

  • 23rd Feb, 2008 at 12:34 AM
pingu
man, i've got so much going on in my head at the moment

a housemate that i'm too passive to, and don;t speak my mind to when i should (causing the every few month drunken blurtings of problems between us)

i've got a new girlfriend called sam (hello sam, if you're reading this) which i've got to get used to after a year of being single (after my first proper 2 and a half year relationship with hazel)

i've got second year to deal with (not that it's exactly an intensive course, being a photography degree instead of something hardcore academic) and moving into a flat with photography coursemates for 3rd year this summer

so yeah, a lot happening, and i've not really stopped to think about it all and let it settle in and make sense and decide what I WANT instead of what will make the people around me happy (which in turn makes me happy, as my life is easier)

i'm a passive person, and i need to actively realise it and make an effort to counter this passiveness otherwise i'm going to drift and be walked upon by others,

and i might have had a bit of alcohol to drink tonight, which makes this far harder to type, but also a lot easier to say
yeah, happy new year 2008, may it be interesting, and new, and bring me new changes an challeneges

but for now i need sleep, and i'll make an effort to use my diary/journal more often to sound out my ideas/opinions/feelings so that i can hopefully make sens of them before they impact too heavily on my day to day life and choices i make with the people who surround me

this is sounding far too philosophical, and my spell checker probably doesn't like me too much, so nn to you all (if you bother to read this) and i'm sure the next post willmake more sense when things are making sense in my head

happy 2008 to you all

(testing frank the lj bot now i've got adium back) Hey, just repaired my broken G4 powerbook by combining the base of a 2nd hand one from ebay (fully working but with broken screen) and the screen from my older and mostly broken powerbook. Now I've got the best of both, powerbook G4 with working screen, dvd writer and 80gb hard drive. now i've got to buy a new battery as this one has only got 30% capacity left :(

money money money

or lack of it

still in bristol
still have no money

i'm going to entertainment exchange tomorrow to try and sell some old software, dvds and spare computer components so i have enough money to pay phone bill, etc

the bank have given me a lovely £38 fine for my phone bill direct debit bouncing. bah. along with my £10 for going over my overdraft

so yeah

on another note, i've got a potential job as a warehouse picker and packer for a giftware trading company in brislington from end of september to mid november, and i've applied for a linux/apache sysadmin job for uwe student union. that also starts in september

so until then, money is going to be very very tight

stuff i've been up to recently thats fun, well lets see...
i wen to the dojo lounge on friday night. got on the guest list because one of my friends friends was DJing that night. very tiny dark club, but a nice big covered heated area outside to smoke in (which was busier than inside the club!)
photos are here on facebook :)

i fixed roddy's computer today by removing a dead stick of ram

and i've cleaned the house today :)
and had my first bath in the new house. nice and relaxing (i even moved a speaker into the bathroom so i could listen to music in the bath)

dan went with amy to her parents house in burnham yesterday. he was due to get the train back this evening, but apparently a train caught fire in bristol temple meads station, so he's going to get the first train back tomorrow morning

thats about all really. it's a bit sad to see my livejournal neglected, but i've just got out of the habit of updating it
oh well

hi to any of you that still bother reading this :P

hey
it's been a while since i've posted on here
things have got pretty busy in my life recently and i've not got round to writing about much of it (that and facebook has taken over as my main social networking website)

so i moved house exactly 1 week ago..... )
so yeah, i'm all settled in my new house now. some bills to sort out now, but at least i've got internet sorted :D 10mbit virgin media broadband (20mbit by the end of the month when they upgrade it)!

i've got glade festival to go to from 19th to 22nd july with dan, amy, jack and a few other people i know. i hope the nice weather i've seen over the past few days sticks with us!

then i need to worry about a job, and getting some money sorted for the summer before uni starts again in september. and go visit manchester people at some point over summer

happy late 5th livejournal birthday

oops, long weekend

friday was my livejournal's 5th birthday. i've been neglecting it recently. lots of facebook and real life things have happened.

i've only got 2 weeks left of university, then it's summer holidays! i'm going to glade festival again this summer! w00t!

i've also been building a battery powered amp with my housemate dan. it's really loud and we're going to take it and 2 speakers to glade festival :)

jack came to bristol on friday and me, him, dan, amy, george and gemma went to see hexstatic, dj krush, parkertron and jackov & kallender play at clockwork. it was a really good night

saturday afternoon was spent sitting under a tree in the downs with the battery powered amp and a small bonfire. nice and warm and dry :)

sunday was spent playing both lord of the rings and normal versions of risk :) i got to bed at 8am, then slept on the sofa until 1pm :)

so yeah, things are going busily but well.

berlin...

...was amazing

i can't find words to describe it. even photographs can't describe it
so much happened i don't think i can write it all down

lots of art and photography exhibitions were viewed
not many notes were made on them

lots of beer was drunk in the evening

then i saw amon tobin do a live 7.1 surround sound dj set based loosely on his new album called Foley Room. it had more earth moving bass lines than actual surround sound, but was absolutely amazing. yet again words fail me

i want to return to berlin soon sometime and find a little backpackers hostel in the east end. hopefully drag some of my friends along with me and have an amazing time. more supplies than just beer would enhance it further

i'm back in bristol now, and real life is catching up with me. the next week or 2 is going to be insanely busy for me, and probably will stay busy until summer time comes along. but i have glade festival and other crazy stuff to look forward to, so some intense uni work before then will only make the contrast with summer much better

photos of berlin will find their way onto the internet over the next few weeks when i get round to it (the sooner the better, but as i say busy uni related stuff is afoot at the moment and i really need to get work done)

i hope everyone on LJ who reads this is doing well, and if you want to keep up-to-date with what i'm doing go stalk me on my facebook

ok, so i'm crap at remembering to update this livejournal

i went on from newcastle to edinburgh for 2 days. met up with danny and kit. then i got a plane to orkney and spent a week with my family
the weather wasn't great, but i had a fun time there :)
then i got back home last wednesday at about midnight, spent the last few days sorting stuff out from my long trip and trying (and failing) to get a load of uni work done

now i'm just about to set off for berlin for a week with my university! woo! we get to take crazy photos all week, but we also have to go and see loads of art galleries and write critically about them. fun

i hope i've not left too much of this work to the last minute. i can tell the next few weeks are going to be busy for me!

ah well.
at least i've got summer to look forward to :)

i'll update here at some point with more pointless and out of date news from my life

maybe

more of my travels

saturday 31st March
woke up far too early and got the bus with jack to picadilly station. we got the 7:20am train to newcastle, arriving at 10:05am. met up with simon shaw and we walked back to his house

headed out to osbournes in jesmond for a few drinks.

sunday 1st April
i slept in until about 12midday. we all had breakfast and then i headed off to meet my friend jo at the monument while jack stayed at simon's house and played around with the decks and chaos pad that were there.

i wandered round the quayside with jo, and we went in a cool art gallery next to the sage. ate some tea in a lloyds bar on the quayside and then i headed back to jo's house. we were going to have a bonfire, but instead ended up watching best of top gear before i got a bus and walked back to simons house (getting lost on the way, but managing to find the house anyway).

stayed up late watching tv with jack, simon, and a housemate or two before heading off to bed

monday 2nd april
got up early and walked down to the station with jack and simon so i could get my 10:40am train to edinburgh. jack was getting an 11:15am train back to manchester. i got to edinburgh by 12:15 and met danny at the station. we walked back to his and kit's flat, then i got a whistle stop tour of edinburgh. we ended up back at doctors where we had a quick pint before going back to the flat. danny's friend charlie came over. they cooked spaghetti bolognese and we got some beer and sat round chatting for the rest of the evening

tuesday 3rd april
i'd slept in the comfiest biggest bed ever that night. i woke up and didn't know where i was. i dozed for a while in the comfy soft bed until 11ish and got up. had some tea and breakfast with danny, then at 3pmish we went off and met up with charlie at the library. we walked on to and up arthurs seat. i got some really cool photos from up the top. i hope i've got some time to put all of the panoramas together as the views were spectacular when i took them. wish i'd brought a good tripod with me.

walked back down and went to get a curry from the mosque kitchens. £3.50 for a tasty chicken curry with rice and salad. and the only cutlery they had were spoons!
we went to meet up with kit in the park and eat the curry, then on to the local pub called doctors.

headed back to the flat for a bit, kit has been playing pokemon yellow. danny and kit have just finished packing to go camping

easter holiday - manchester

smarties
Thursday 29th March
I slept in through my alarm clock, and missed my 9:59 train from bristol to manchester. I'd already packed the night before, so I got everything together and ran off to get the next train. I missed the local train from redland to bristol temple meads, so had to get the bus to temple meads. eventually i got on the 11:30 train at bristol, and got into manchester at 3pm.

I went to see some friends at the Transitive office, met up with jack and got the bus back to his house to drop off my bags. I went back into the city centre to meet up with adie and some others from Transitive for some drinks.

After quite a few pints I got back to jack's house in west didsbury at about 1am, watched the latest episode of lost, then went to bed.

Friday 30th March
I slept in again until 12 midday. Ate some toast for breakfast, lurked on my laptop for a bit then me and jack headed off into the city centre. I got a new pair of shoes for £12 from tkmaxx, jack got a pair of shoes too. Then jack bought an 8gb Creative Zen V Plus from currys.digital for £135. Much better value than an iPod nano

Back at jacks house now. garlic bread for tea, maybe a few pints in a pub, and then i have to get up at 6am tomorrow morning for my next train to newcastle

wasted 2 hours

  • 28th Mar, 2007 at 4:56 PM
itchy and scratchy
I've just spent the last 2 hours walking around the Gloucester Road area of Bristol -

- trying to get my watch strap fixed (turns out all I had to do was phone Casio UK and they're posting me a new strap for a total of £7)

- trying to buy some new cheap trainers (as my current pair have got holes in the bottom of them), but the only shops I could find were crap and I didn't want to walk to the chavvy broadmead shopping centre of Bristol

Oh well. At least I got out of the house today. Now to start rounding things up and packing my bags tonight, as I've got a lot of travelling to do over the next week, starting tomorrow morning at 8:30am

beginning of the easter holidays

uni is offically finished for the easter (well, it was on thursday afternoon)

i've just realised i've only got until tuesday evening to get prepared for my 2 weeks of travelling and holidays. i've not got much uni work done since thursday. oh well. something to keep me entertained on the train :)

i'm still trying to digest the humungous roast me and 6 other people at at my house last night. it was massive and tasty

oops, i stopped writing this at 2pm, and now it's nearly 2am!

watched battlestar galactica. omg! the end of the series is so epic
now i've got no good tv to watch until 2008 when series 4 starts!

i just managed to get an evil rootkit spyware installed on my laptop
luckily i think i found all the places it was hiding on my hard disk and have deleted all traces i could find of it. phew

need to pack for my epic journey tomorrow on thursday

this past few weeks i have mainly been using facebook

i've spent far too much time having fun and not doing any uni work, and now the inevitable "oh shit, i've got loads of stuff to do in not a lot of time" feeling is setting in

i'll write a proper post on here of what i've been up to, if any of you are still reading this

judging by the amount of people who are still active on my friends list, i'm tempted to possibly make my journal private and use it when i can be arsed. why oh why did i get another years paid account?

it would seem that livejournal is fading away into the background noise of my life, and other stuff is taking priority

ho hum

Hello journal
hello everybody

it's almost been an entire month since i posted anything here
i've been busy, doing stuff in the real world, and letting myself get distracted

i went to a screen printing workshop at uni on 16th. saw some of my class mates and lou from fine art. a bit of a pointless but fun day. £4 spent to make an A4 screen print from scratch and print it onto card. more money stolen off me by uni

then paul, elliot and elliot's girlfriend gem came to visit me in bristol from 18th-19th. we hung round my house, got drunk, played mario party and soul calibre, and then went out to timbuk2 and arcbar on friday 19th. great fun was had, and because my housemates were using the living room for a mini rave my 3 friends and i had to squeeze into my small bedroom to sleep on friday night. still, great fun and memories

i wrote up my photography coursework on sunday 21st and finished it just in time to hand it in on monday 22nd morning. then DV video and editing workshop on 23rd jan and rushing to finish my 1500 word essay by 25th jan. i started writing it at 11pm on 24th jan and finished by 8am on 25th, with a hand in deadline of 2pm on 25th! close shave or what!

then i relaxed a bit lot. i got a 2 week inter-semester break where i sat around and didn't do much productive at all.
i went to visit my friend roddy in bristol on friday 2nd feb night, and got to play on his houses nintendo wii. great fun, but a bit too active for me :)

then i met up with my old friend phoebe on saturday 3rd. we caught up on what we'd been doing and had a cool time.

then, for the second half of my inter-semester break i didn't do much again :)
on 8th feb i randomly decided to get 2 trains and a bus to devizes to visit up with [info]beebi_moo. a surreal afternoon involving costa coffee, sheltering from the sleetand rain, looking for snow, buying and cooking marks and spencers pizza, making tea without a kettle, chatting geek with gina's friend, getting drunk in the random pubs of devizes, sleeping on the cushions of their sofa, eating breakfast cereal out of a glass. i've posted the photos i took here.

i travelled back feeling slightly hung over on friday 9th. recovered during the day, then went out to see my housemate ben DJing at arc bar. another drunken and great night out. i managed to lend my £700 worth of digital SLR camera to a drunk guy with dreadlocks. he walked off with it and i only just managed to find him and the camera before they both went missing forever. i also found a padded high-visibility jacket on a park bench which i decided to take home with me. some photos from that night are here on facebook. i'll try to get the other 500 photos edited down to a sensible number and put them on my gallery

i've also been spending time with my housemate dan making a website for his nucleus mp3 touchscreen software. it's taken longer than we though to iron out all the bugs, but the site is pretty much finished (except for not working in internet explorer properly, damn css)
if you're interested then visit http://nucleusv2.dineley.com, download a copy and see what you think. any feedback on the website or the mp3 playing software is greatly appreciated!

and now, after not doing any uni related work for the past few weeks, i start back tomorrow morning at 10am for photgraphic discourse :|

my marks for the first semester were above a pass, which is good, but i want to do better in the second semester

anyways, back to watching some tv, and i'll try to keep this journal sort of up to date. you never know, i might even read my friends page and comment on posts now and then :D
